Junior Tennis Clinics

The Shrewsbury Club Junior Tennis Program’s goal is to promote a love of tennis. We aim to develop a foundation built on technical and tactical skills, while creating a supportive, fun and enjoyable environment. We have programs for ages 3 – 18 and all levels of skill; with a wide range of focus points.

  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Ball control and consistency
  • Match play and formulating a game plan

Junior Team Tennis

Team Red, Team Orange, Team Green & Team Yellow

Our Junior Team Tennis Programs are for competitive tournament players. Instructor approval is required before enrollment. on court training and physical/mental conditioning are part of these programs. Some of the opportunities these programs offer are:

  • intense drill sessions
  • weekend tournaments
  • in house challenge matches

In this group, players prepare to transition to the 60′ Orange court. They have demonstrated an understanding of basic ground stroke and serve technique as well as grips and footwork patterns. Players are both physically and mentally prepared to begin work on the situational aspects of the game. team Red players are introduced to the larger court space, faster ball and concepts of forward and backward movement that come with Orange court play.

This class is part of our Junior Team Tennis Program and requires prior instructor approval before registering.

Beginner Orange focuses on building the athletic skills required by the sport while also teaching the fundamentals necessary to serve, rally and score using a rally/game based curriculum. The coaching is focused on developing sending and receiving skills, sound footwork and racquet mechanics.

Players are fundamentally sound in both movement and technique and are beginning to work on more advanced patterns of play utilizing the larger court space. Dynamic balance, experimentation with various tactics and strategies, and development of, “weapons,” all become a part of the tennis player’s game. Players are encouraged to play Orange Ball tournaments.

Ages 10-12
Beginner Green is designed for beginner levers. It is taught using a rally based curriculum and focuses on developing sending and receiving skills, sound footwork, racquet mechanics and incorporating comparable athletic skills developed in other sports. Players learn how to properly position themselves to execute ground strokes and volleys, hit with purpose, serve and ultimately sustain a rally of varying speed and duration.

This course is dedicated to providing and opportunity for intermediate level teenage players to progress their skills in a fun and competitive environment. Players who participate in this program must have prior experience and should have aspirations of playing high school tennis. Stroke development, footwork, doubles and singles strategies will all be covered during the course of the session.

This program is for the player who is playing high school varsity tennis and level 7 tournaments. This is an intense program designed for competitive high school players. On court drills will include point play, dead ball drills, fitness drills and mental toughness skills.

Team Yellow focuses on technical understanding of singles and douvles strategies necessary to compete at teh tournament level. Players drill, play matches and complete agility-power-speed regimens that will assist them in becoming a solid, well-rounded and more complete player.

Group Junior Tennis Programming Policies

All clinics require a minimum of 3 participants to run. If there is not sufficient enrollment, semi-private lessons or private lessons are available.

*Pay by Seasonal EFT (Lowest Rate!): EFT is always your most cost effective form of payment. Benefits of EFT include: lowest clinic price, makeup lessons for missed classes, and guaranteed space for the duration of the 2018 – 2019 season. Makeup Policy (By Session): The Shrewsbury Club has a no makeup policy with the following exceptions:

  1. Classes cancelled by The Club due to weather or inability to operate
  2. Instructor illness

For clients paying by the session, there will be no makeups for classes missed because of a conflicting schedule or illness.

Makeup Policy (EFT): Depending on the level of EFT payment you have chosen, you are entitle to a set number of makeup classes during the season. For one clinic a week EFT, you will receive 2 makeups per season, for two clinics a week; 4 and for three clinics a week; 6. All makeups must be scheduled through the tennis department in advance.
